Hello friends of the Hive community, I am pleased to share another one of my crochet creations. I am making a set for a client which includes the shorts i am sharing today, a bikini bra and a mesh top. I will share those in subsequent posts.
Before I get into the process of making this short, I just want to rant a little. If you are a crocheter then you will understand how frustrating it is to unravel a work that you鈥檝e spent so many hours on. It all started when I noticed I was doing the wrong design!
First of all, I don鈥檛 know why I didn't check the style before starting the project, I always do that. For some reason, I had this Idea in my head that was similar to what the client requested. It wasn鈥檛 until I was halfway through, something in me said I should check the design the client picked and I can鈥檛 explain how heartbroken I was to discover I had been doing the wrong thing. I almost cried.
Although it was painful, I knew I had to redo it, so I took a break for a few days. Worked on other projects that I have, prepared myself mentally and started over. Okay, enough of my ranting let's get into the process properly.
Materials
Any medium weight yarn
Size 4mm crochet hook.
I started by making a chain that is less than 4 inches from the hips measurement when stretched, it is 4 inches less so that it won鈥檛 be so big around the waist region. Then I closed the chain to form a circle and continued with regular double crochets on the chains.
There is a mesh design at the sides of the shorts. I started the mesh on the second row. To make the mesh design I chained 3 skip 3 stitches and single crochet in the fourth stitch, then chained 6 skipped 5 stitches and single crochet into the 6th stitch, then ended it with 3 chains, skip 3 stitches and single crochet into the 4th.
Here's a video of the process.
For the next row when I got to the sides where the mesh design is, I chained 6 and inserted a single crochet in the middle of chain 6 from the previous mesh. Then chain 6 and continued with the regular double crochets. On every row of the mesh design, there are a total of 12 chains.
Here's a video of the process.
So I continued with this pattern, one row containing the first mesh design, the next row with the second mesh design until I had a total of 10 inches and it was time to split the legs. While making the short I did some increases on the sides to cover the 4 inches I removed initially and also I made the back of the short a little bigger than the front to adequately accommodate the butt.
For the splitting of the legs, since the client is a little on the big side I increased the number of chains from 20 - 23 before I attached to the exact middle of the front then continued with one leg of the short while also putting the mesh design at the side. Then I repeated the same process on the other leg and I was done!
Here鈥檚 the final look, I hope you like it.
