Six years ago, my world was suddenly shattered. My sweet boy Bandit was enduring chemo treatment and was just starting to adjust to an amputation to buy us time with his Osteosarcoma (bone cancer). He was crushing it, and it looked like we were on the right path. That’s when it happened. Six years ago is the first time my heart was ever really broken.
Bloat.
It was a freak occurrence and it came quickly. I was able to rush him to the Emergency Vet but the situation was dire...and I had to say goodbye to one of the most beautiful creatures that I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Bandit was my first in a now 18 year long journey with my pack...Kibandia. There was BANdit, BINdi, KItano, and MaYA...taking a piece of each of their names to form the pack name of Kibandia.
Bandit was a great leader to the other pups. He was playful with Maya, comforting to Bindi, and stern to Kitano. But he protected them and taught me love and loyalty on a level I never knew existed.
Bandit’s loss was devastating to me. I mean...it really set the tone for the next several years for me as I went through some darkness. I’m happy to say that I’m in a better state of mind these days.
Now, with only one surviving pup left of the pack after Kitano and then Bindi following...I feel I’m finally at a point where I can cope well enough.
The pain is still there. I think it always will be. I’ve just learned to live with the scars. The pups with Bandit leading the way, were a major part of my life. Having them has helped define who I am...so I just wanted to take a moment out and give a shout-out to the pack...but especially Bandit on this evening. As it’s the first time in six years of his passing, that I’m not a blubbering mess. But instead, smiling...laughing & thinking fondly of my incredibly fortunate journey alongside a most pure and beautiful creature.
Love you boy.
