As I went to go check on my dogs last night as they were taking in the comforts the evening awarded them, I noticed a little visitor chilling on my window. It’s a tiny frog and in the past few weeks I’ve seen a gazillion of these lil’ guys hanging around on the windows or sides of my house.
They also like to lurk in my lawn once they get a bit larger. Popping out and scaring the shit out of me. Especially when I mow the grass. I always try to keep a good eye out when doing the lawn as to not...well...you know.
The one thing I’ll say that I enjoy about these guys the most is the sounds. In the evenings my yard is silent and still except for the constant calls of the frogs. It’s melodic and calming and is probably the closest I get to connecting to nature during the busy summer months. If only those damn pesky mosquitoes would go away...
We also have the usual array of squirrels and birds that come and visit but most animals kinda keep their distance from the yard. I’m guessing due to the scent or constant view of my pups. We’ve been getting some really pretty cardinals as of late, making appearances which is always a nice sight.
I think In order to help with the mosquito problem, we are going to install a bat house or two high up in the trees. I hear good things about them and I’m definitely going to look into that a bit more. We have the trees and the mosquitoes...we just need the bats! Why not supply them with a perfect crib?!?
Anyone have any cool visitors that pop up on your property? I have a friend in north Jersey and she always has deer and bears on her property. Kinda nutty!!!
