The first 2 weeks of October 2016 I spent hiking in Nepal. As an avid photographer I carried my camera everywhere and virtually slept with it. Day passed, we climbed higher and higher, yet I felt there was no single "defining" photo-day: Bright sun and cloudless sky looked too boring, I dreamed about drama in sky in order to capture landscapes with great mood and depth.
At the end of the second week we planned one day climb on a local peak on the border with Upper Mustang, at Muktinath area. Several days in a row the weather was too good for my kind of photography and I decided to leave camera behind. It would really help hiking up at elevation of 4500 meters not to carry heavy reflex camera with lenses.
Leaving camera at guesthouse turned out to be a terrible mistake: the storm was coming in and light conditions were miraculous. Both inspired and deeply desperate I took photographs with my cell phone:
Photography Gods were laughing at me that day... Surrounding mountains, sky, trees and villages - all went pure magic.
It was a rare light phantasmagory, and I both enjoyed it and cursed myself for such a stupidity
More than a year passed by since then and I can still feel the pain of missed opportunity. And yet I'm feeling a deep gratitude for unusual beauty I was privileged to observe and experience.
