So it is that time of week again where we push music upon you which is a great love of mine. Like my music you Hive fiends which will make me feel good about myself and trendy. Hearing about a new band first is always good. I have a number of bands that I ranted about before they were big and I always bring it up over dinner that it was me that discovered them. A friend of mine has one over me by asking me to a little known band a few years ago. There was around 100 people at it but they were excellent and that band is now known as the Killers. It was nicely done by my friend but I sneer at him regularly and haven't admitted that the Killers are actually a good band yet. I just call them those Mormon mob and change the subject. Anyway on with the three tunes. World Cup fever has hit and Brazil are in it to win it yet again. I always like the vibes they bring to the tournament and he Samba dancing their fans and players do bring.
The Brazil players got off the bus the other night dancing. What better way to relive a bit of pressure than to play a bit of music and if you are the one playing it then even better.

I remember when I lived in the Canaries , the whole island had a Fiesta samba party in February and it had this type of samba drumming where the drummers would walk through the streets and you would follow around liked the piped piper. The first kind of world cup theme tunes started to emerge. Now most were not official world cup songs but the song became attached to the tournament. I think the most famous advert of them all was when Brazil were going through the airport and the song.

Many wouldn't realize that the original Mas Que Nada was released in 1966. It is a song that stands the test of time plus it is always great to put a face to a voice who sings the verse.
Take another example Samba De Janeiro below. It was used in a couple of adverts during the world cup and it took off.

Shakira - Waka Waka This Time for Africa
My daughter loves the Waka Waka song which is the South Africa World Cup song that Shakira performs. It was strange that Shakira who is Columbian by birth got to do the South African world cup song but because she is a global star with a famous footballer as her partner it made sense at the time. But I love the whole African back instrumentals in this song. Little Mermaidesques.
Vampire Weekend do the little Waka Waka jingle at the end of their Bruce Springstein cover Going Down.
Listen to the end and you will hear it. So I had to get out the guitar and learn it off myself because it is a great little jingle.
