It was March of 1989 and a well known Irish musician by the name of Tom Dunne from the band Something Happens was sitting in his car in L.A with his 3 other band members. They were just after finishing their second album "Stuck Together With God’s Glue" and were going to celebrate in a local bar. Their drummer got hold of the second album from the Pixies called "Dolittle". Those were the perks of recording in an L.A studio. 3 songs in and the band knew they were toast. Doolittle would change music forever. So my three tune Tuesday band this week are the Pixies.
Known to be the inventors of grunge music and paved the way for bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Not the average looking rock star. Frank Black doesn't stand out from the crowd and it is one thing I love about him. He rocked up in Dublin's Grafton Street one day and started banging out tunes. He drew such a crowd that the police had to come and escort him away. It is not uncommon to see famous celebrities busking in Dublin. Bono does it every Christmas eve as well.
I was lucky enough to see The Pixies a few times. The last one was when Arcade Fire supported them in Marley Park Dublin around 7 years ago. It was one of the best gigs I have ever been too. The whole line up was top class. An Irish band called Ham Sandwich started the day and they were quality as well. I always thought if Ham Sandwich had a better name they would have made it.
Anyway back to the Pixies. My three songs are

The first song from Doolittle. I can just imagine the 4 lads sitting in the car knowing their album was in trouble after hearing this tune. I love the Pixies songs because they are short and they just rock from end to end.

The next one is a slower one but a nice one to learn on the guitar. Lots of talks of whores in the bed the filthy animals.
One thing about the Pixies is you can spot their sound a mile away. They love a good string bend but they use them effectively.
