I'm watching a documentary on Netflix at the moment about Woodstock 1999. It was an absolute disaster as the organisers cut costs for one big payday. They also booked bands that were all about rage and destruction such as Limp Bizkit and Korn which fed the crowd to start breaking things and by the end of the weekend , the mob ruled and burned the place down. The concert was held in a massive decommissioned army base that was just acres of tarmac. During the weekend, the organisers did not leave anyone in with liquids and charged $4 for a bottle of water. The was no shade and people were dropping with sun stroke. Also there was a fratboy atmosphere and it was toxic. I did however enjoy seeing Wyclef Jean getting pelted by bottles. The original organiser of Woodstock Michael Lang dreamed of the 1969 Woodstock which was re-owned for being chilled and everyone had a great time. Jimi Hendrix was probably the most famous act that year and his set went down as one of the best live gigs in history. Jimi was the last act that went on stage on Monday morning at ... wait for it.... 8am. I laughed when I heard that. Imagine heading to one of the most infamous rock gigs with the worlds greatest guitarists at 8am.
Voodoo Child Slight Return
Anyway another interesting fact about the gig is that Jimi played notes on the song voodoo Child on his famous Fender Stratocaster that have never been heard before. The song had to be studied by Fender to figure out how he got the sounds that he did get. One of Jimi's useful tools were the length of his fingers. They were double the length of the guitar neck which came in handy. Also Jimi was probably one of the only guitar players that mastered the tremolo bar and he was doing all kinds of crazy things with it. Shall we give voodoo child a listen. Some of you may think the solo is a bit of overkill but to see this guy in action is unreal. Voodoo Child Slight Return is one of the best solo intros in history.

I could have easily went for Hey Joe or All Along The Watchtower but I think bold as love is one of his best songs,(yes I know Watchtower is Bob Dylan who I will cover next week)
