Hello World. I am working on a non profit fan-game project in my spare time named Vamprotector. It's a fusion between Castlevania and Contra.
I've been working on the game since 2009 in my spare time and plan to release the game free on the net for PC. I am also co-producing an original game soundtrack. It's basically fusion's of the best Castlevania and Contra themes written and performed by my buddy BMC_Warmachine. (It's all 80's hard rock)
I am programming it using Clickteam Fusion 2.5. I originally started using the Beats-Of-Rage Engine, then Multimedia Fusion 2, and finally upgrading to 2.5.
The game plays more like a Contra game then Castlevania. You can switch between a Whip Mode to Gun Mode anytime during gameplay. The shooting is 8 directional. There is also an intricate HUD system where you have a Combo System where you can combine your whip, items, or guns acquired during gameplay into more powerful weaponary.
There will be 2 characters to choose from Richter Belmont and Jeremiah Van Helsing. The plot of Vamprotector is loosely based on the Tomb of Dracula comic series by Marvel Comics where the protagonists travel back in time to prevent Dracula from ever resurrecting. Our two heroes, Richter Belmont and Jeremiah Van Helsing are thrown through a magic mirror where they must travel through different time periods collecting shards of the mirror preparing for their finally confrontation with Dracula.
I have used a variety of spritework from various games using open-sourced sprites. I have also included my own original custom sprites and animations in the game. All the levels, game design, and the layout is designed by me as well. All the music in the game is original and produced by BMC_Warmachine.
Hidden Stages
I should have a playable demo for people to try later on this year. There is a little more than a year's work on the game collectively as I work on the game in my free time. Open to critique's, idea's, etc., I have a vision set for the game, but I like hearing and conversing about game design.
I have a FaceBook page for the game and you can also type in Vamprotector in Youtube to see some gameplay or listen to some of the game's soundtrack!
