A Softer Nightmare
In the still of night, I close my eyes
But instead of peace, a monster lies
A softer nightmare, one of fear and doubt
That wraps around me, leaving no way out
It whispers secrets of what I lack
And all the mistakes I've made in the past
It tells me stories of impending doom
And I can't help but feel like I'm in a tomb
I try to run, but I cannot flee
This softer nightmare has a hold on me
It clouds my mind and poisons my heart
Tearing me apart, tearing me apart
But in the light of day, I find my strength
And push aside the shadows at great length
For though it may return, come night's descent
I'll stand my ground, I'll be content
For I know that this softer nightmare is just a dream
And though it may be scary, it's not as it seems
For I am the master of my own mind
And in time, the shadows will recede, I'll find.
