Sometimes people are doing their best to help, but are unsure where to begin, so they ask around and follow advice, that is sometimes bad advice, to try to help. And how many, I wonder, bilked the woman out of the gold claiming to be destitute when, in fact, they just wanted the gold because they figured her for a pawn and got greedy. And the "Thrown filth" means likely that the same greedy people threw things at her and mocked her afterward. I think Wraithvine should stick around there for a while to help things out, and help "sort out" the bullies who are mocking the efforts.
