Given what I've seen those chemicals do when they mix, I kinda feel sorry for the pirates, that is a HORRIBLE way to die. The lungs bleed, the throat is burned, and it's a very painful, and slightly slow, death. You CAN save people suffering from it, but you gotta get them O2 quickly and, in that world, would need nanobots working quickly to clean up the chemical burns in the trachea and lungs. It's basically being gassed to death. The human would've had to go through, past the dying pirates as they were coughing up blood and writhing painfully on the floor. That would not have been a sight easily forgotten.

Liss is going to need therapy after seeing that, well, I know I would. It's a shock none of them chased after her begging her to save them.
