Anything, including theobromine, can cause a contact allergy. When I had a salamander, I had liquid chocolate I was dipping cookies into, it wasn't hot so no risk of burning, but my younger sister thought she'd be "cute" and dip my salamander into it. The poor animal died. The vet said the chocolate poisoned it. :-(
