I wonder how likely it is that the youngster will become a protector for that gentle havenworlder and their family when the kid's older?

That's SO adorable! :-) The kid's reading, writing, and other skills are going to seriously increase more quickly because of this. And the havenworlder's strength is going to increase for this, too.
