In a simple explanation REP on Steemit is determined not by how many votes or how many flags you received. But WHO voted or WHO flagged your post.

Be absolutely clear that how much steem power a user have does not reflect his reputation.

But how exactly is the reputation calculated. What we see is just a reputation number.  But this number is driven by an algorithm which gives you a score each time someone upvotes or downvotes . You can see your existing score if you goto http://steemd.com/@username

You can see it in the highlighted below.

So how is this score calculated ?

Lets do a little bit of maths here.... You may need a few tools to help it out.

STEP 1 : First you take the REPUTATION and you calculate the LOG base 10 of the RAW score. In this case it would be 14.052350845

You can use this tool here https://www.rapidtables.com/calc/math/Log_Calculator.html

STEP 2 :  Minus 9 . In this case it would be 14.052350845 - 9 = 5.052350845

STEP 3 :  Multiply by 9 . In this case it would be 5.052350845 x 9 = 45.471157605

STEP 4 :  Plus 25 . In this case it would be 45.471157605  + 25 = 70.471157605 ( REP )

So that's the calculation =)

But what makes the REP drop or go up ?

So everything is based on your RAW reputation count. Each time you go up a level the more RAW scores ( about 30% more ) you would require to go to the next level.  I don't have the entire table with me but here is some calculation to give you an idea.  As you know everyone starts at REP 25 .

  • 26 = 1,300,000,000
  • 27 = 2,000,000,000
  • 29 = 3,000,000,000
  • 31 = 5,000,000,000
  • 34 = 10,000,000,000

The only way for it to actually go up is to get someone with a higher reputation to upvote your post or your comments.  The calculation is part of the underlying core of the STEEM blockchain.

How much score will you earn if a 70 rep upvotes you ? I guess it could be somewhere on github if you bother finding it.

Having said that, I hope this answer your question.  Keeping it simple .... write quality content to get people to view and upvote your content.  Also make proper comments and not just a one liner like "great post" .

For new accounts, I do recommend to spend about 70% - 80% of your time on steemit to comment on other people's post as you will then grow your followers much faster.

Cheers and have a great day ahead !
