The Long Term Hodler Play

Let me just start this out by saying...

HODLER GANG!!!

Drop me a HODL in the comments if you've held bitcoin for longer than a year without selling.

Now that we got that out of the way let's get into the meat of this post. This post is all about the assets I've held long term and continue to hold including some new ones I firmly believe in will be solid plays for the long term hodler.

2011 To Today

Back in 2011 there was only one cryptocurrency. Yeah, it's wild ONE crypto currency which you could mine from your CPU/GPU and honestly stack a decent amount. It was here when I first started to learn about bitcoin. To this day I've held all of my bitcoin and only sold a minor amount that was made from either interest or from other investments or faucets. I believe everyone should have at least some supply of Bitcoin.

From there I learned of a beta launch that was called Ethereum and picked up a sizeable amount at $9 - $13 each. I held most of this however in 2017 I did invest into some projects which sadly all of them flopped. I'm kind of curious if anyone knows of any altcoin layer2 Ethereum token from 2017 that actully survived lol This was a lesson learned and some times we just have to make mistakes ourselves before really learning from them.

From there I picked up a little litecoin since at the time it was the "silver" to bitcoin being gold. However that fell apart quickly in 2017 when the owner sold all and bailed on the project. Litecoin just has never recovered since and I don't think it ever will now ranked #22 on the top crypto list and hasn't budged much for years.

From there about 4-5 years ago I got into steem which then changed to hive what we have today. I invested pretty heavily in it back then in terms of $ and from there invested time to create even more crypto flow.

Alright so those are the long term holds and I wanted to go over that first so you can see what a long term play looks like. Bitcoin at that time was about $100 - $500 it's now $46,000, Ethereum $9 - $13 at that time now $3,800. Hive $0.11- $0.15 now $1.68. When you believe in a project early on and invest FIAT into it you almost always come out on top. Of course you need to do your own research, help it grow, take an active part in it etc.

My New Long Term Plays

HIVE and HBD - Hives come a long way and from that we have been greatly rewarded. However I firmly believe that Hive is only getting started. At the moment there really is only one game that's really providing huge value to hive and that's Splinterlands I don't know of any other project that comes near that in terms of providing value to hive and honestly that's a little sad. Sure there's some other games but for the most part they don't really fuel the hive ecosystem that much. There's community tokens but again few and far between do they provide any real value to hive itself. That's about to change here in 2022 I believe.

With the introduction of more applications and hive as a resource credits over a crypto $ value itself I believe we will see the price skyrocket. These applications are directly in support of Hive both in the way people trade to get resources and sinks which lock the hive up for good. This also includes on boarding of which I hope the SPK network has things on lock there as a easy to join interface is going to be critical to it's success over anything else.

Cardano - This one is a little touchy / risky for me as they seem to talk a lot but not actully provide a lot. I'll be watching this one like a hawk during 2022 to see if they start launching some real applications otherwise this one might be a bust for me.

Polygon - This is one of my new babies from 2021 and one I feel will closely mimic the trajectory of Ethereum. It's based on that Ethereum devs and owner are much more willing to work with Polygon over other layer 2 tokens because there is that sense of comradery in which the devs of Polygon are the ones that helped develop Ethereum and build it and continue to work with them. It's a solid low cost layer 2 solution for Ethereum but not only that they seem to be outpacing Cardano in terms of development and new platforms launching on it. We also have a airdrop coming up from CubDeFi that is highly anticipated. I'm still curious how it's all going to start to feed back into the LEO token on Hive I haven't seen much action there and would love to hear some details from the team on that. Overall though solid projects moving forward.

What one new crypto you found in 2021 that is your long term hodler play? Let me know in the comments.
