A Crypto Retirement Is It Possible?
There was a time I thought I was alone in thinking that one day crypto would allow me to retire. I feel like I was born at a time when SHTF and unless you landed a lucky job that offered up a decent 401k plan or a pension you pretty much are screwed trying to retire yourself.
From multiple main crashes in the financial markets and many so called trusted long term hold stocks that have all but vanished due to some of the worst economic times in the last 15 years it's been a serious struggle for A LOT of people and for many it continues to get harder.
I made the move myself in 2011 as I started to mine bitcoin. I fully admit at the time I didn't understand really what it was. I personally thought I was exchanging my computers processing power to help render videos and other things (which there where other programs that offered this at the time as well in exchange for $) but I ended up moving to Bitcoin and really starting to dig in and learn it.
There's been some crazy rides and I even bought into Ethereum at $13 on average with a number of my paychecks back then. Since then I've been a part of it's growth fueling projects I believe in and truly diversifying my portfolio. Maybe not always the best plays but it's bound to happen and the best you can do is make the best choices you know at the time.
Granted I have to say without crypto I honestly don't think I'd ever "retire" but personally I like to call it "financial freedom" a point at which you don't have to worry about money anymore and can live a good life. (For me personally I don't want much some land, enjoy the days and spend time with people I care about and have good times) Nothing flashy nothing fancy because when it comes down to it all you need is your basics, to enjoy your day and enjoy the people you are around and nothing else matters. That's a spot I'm pushing for myself as quickly as possible.
My Generation
Now that you have a bit of a history lesson about me and my personal goals I want to go over others. From a recent survey 28% of millennials plan to use crypto to fund retirement.
To me this number is only going to jump and increase and be near 80% in five years from now. Why? The traditional financial system is so broken right now that you simply can not retire for many people or at lease retire well. You most likely won't have social security to fall back on, you wont have a robust 401k most likely (which by the way was only suppose to be a temporary thing until the government figured out something else) and pensions are very few if any anymore unless you have a government job.
With Crypto we finally see what used to be a thing back in the day. The ability to work a job, get a house, raise a family (and at that time they were BIG families) and put your money in the bank and actully earn something from it.
Those things are all gone and anyone trying to hold on to them I feel is going to be in for a very rude awaking. Crypto now offers relatively safe methods to be earning 10% plus and other riskier investments 60% if not higher. With the introduction of the SEC and UK heavily pushing towards regulation of cryptos it will start to bring in a sense of security and risk mitigation. It is what the SEC was designed to do maybe they will get it right for once and not screw people over? (My hopes are not high for it though lol) in any case it will shove billions if not trillions of dollars into the crypto markets that will eventually flood to other areas such as DeFi, and other crypto assets fueling one of the biggest rallies yet.
Just like the 2021 rally dwarfed the 2017 rally I see the next dwarfing the 2021 rally which puts me at a 10 trillion dollar market cap if not bigger.
How many of you are betting on crypto to fully fund your retirement? I'm just curious you don't have to say lol
