I was recently in the Dordogne region of France and was stunned, not only at how many stars I could see, but that I could clearly make out the milky way with my naked eye streaking across the sky above me.

So I grabbed my camera and gave it a shot.

Camera: Fujifilm X100S
Exposure Time: 30 seconds
ISO: 1600
Aperature: 2.0

I used a Joby GorillaPod to keep the camera still. In hindsight I think the exposure time was too long because the stars have streaked a little.

In spite of being in-the-middle-of-nowhere there's still light pollution visible on the horizon. I used GIMP to post-process the image to try and remove it, with some success.

The original image is shown below.

If you have any tips for taking better astrophotos please let me know in the comments. Also, if anyone knows how to completely remove light pollution during post-processing, I'd love to hear it.
