Possibly but weaker players already have to find a different past-time if we're being realistic because it's not like weaker players have a chance even with luck involved. The Platform Cash Cup for Fortnite in OCE currently only has cash prizes for the top 5. No amount of luck is going to push the weakest players playing the comp into the top 5. It's just not going to happen. Luck could influence the chance of people very close to that skill level placing in the top 5, but it's not going to make a significantly weaker player win any money.

I'm competing but I'm not expecting to win money. I can hold my own in Arena (the precursor to competitive) but I get my arse handed to me whenever I do a cup at this point. I just keep trying and practicing to hopefully eventually reach the point that that doesn't happen. It's only the best of the best earning money from these things, regardless of how much luck is involved. Its esports, which is as reliant on skill as physical sports. It's just awesome that everyone can participate provided they level up in Arena. Some esports (and especially sports - I can't just decide I'm going to join my state's main football team for example) don't have that option.

As for Arena, less luck is a good thing because if you had good luck with luck based parts of the game it would means you got a lot of arena points and pushed up into tiers you aren't ready for. It is possible to currently cheese the levelling in Arena due to just playing very passively and avoiding people (not always possible, but it can happen) and getting points just for placement (being in top 25 etc) but it's unwise. I have done that a little bit once it reached the point I'd lose points if I didn't either kill someone or get placement points, but when I could only gain points nad couldn't lose them, I dropped in places where lots of other people would drop and played aggressively (but intelligently) to ensure my skill matched with what I was doing and I didn't get in over my head.

I think some luck should still be there. IT's not like we want everyone to have the exact same gun loadout etc. That's less to do with equity within the comp and more because it won't be fortnite after enough changes, though. However, some things that have been fun in pubs over the lifetime of Fortnite so far, would be a bit gamebreaking in an esports competition.

I couldn't agree that I should deserve to win money in a comp due to me having good luck over someone more skilled than me that had worse luck. There's still some luck involved in the game, and there should be to a degree, so I wouldn't complain if luck worked in my favour in a comp in some future world where I had a chance of winning a comp, but if I'm a weaker player by a reasonable amount, I honestly shouldn't win the comp.
I'd be better off making money from streaming or making videos about it than winning something I didn't have the skill to win.

Also, the game honestly survives well even without its competitive side. People can play the modes that aren't esports / "Competitive with a capital C" aimed and people stream it, lets play it and all that good stuff without even needing to touch arena and comps if they don't want. And people are buying skins and battle passes. If the game was only the comps and didn't have normal matches, the situation might be different.
