Hello fellow travelers, if I could choose one of my most interesting adventures I would have to place this trail among my top 5, Welcome to the "Trilho Portas do vento" or whose translation is: (Wind door trail), have you seen a door in the middle of nature? I was researching a lot and it seems like a simple work of art where each person can interpret what feeling it transmits to you to have finished the path and run into this door! what is it for me? I think... That a door to enter nature... Join me in this experience and enjoy the landscapes of Porto de Mos.
The trail is a mix between an urban, rural landscape and wild nature, it is the most fun part of the experience because it is in a place where you are not in danger and you have many things near you to buy any supplies, take a lot of water, a hat to the sun and take some breaks! the terrain is too hot and you feel that on your face so sunscreen and sunglasses will be of great help! Having said all this, for me the best height to do this path is in spring or late spring, in winter the terrain is dangerous due to the rain and in summer it is too hot! In the end it's up to you, don't forget your camera, you might meet some interesting animals!ππ
The plants give that special touch to the landscape in spring, we see many bushes with their flowers which attracts many pollinators, the disadvantage of summer is that some of them are dry and the landscape is more arid! It is difficult for us to see large trees such as pines in the mountains because it is an area that is normally at risk of fire, so you will not have a walk surrounded by trees.π
While I was walking for about 3 kilometers, I came across these beautiful windmills that were quite common in the high areas of Porto de Mos and that at the same time contributed a great contribution to the local economy, different types of cereals were worked here for consumption or export, in Portugal it is believed that the first built windmill dates from the 1st century after Christ and I imagine that it was the Romans who brought technology to Portugal.πππ
At this stage of the trail I am in the "Serra dos Candeeiros" which is the protected area that I mentioned before if I'm not mistaken the mountain at its highest point is about 480 meters, it is not one of the highest that I visit but it has a landscape just as beautiful you can even see the castle, here we can find several trails that connect with each other in total we can walk more than 16km between the mountains!ππ
