Hello friends! Today, was a Sunday of adventure and so I bring you a new walk in one of the most beautiful places in Portugal. For this I travel 20km from the center of Lisbon towards Sintra getting out in the village of Malveira da Serra. Here I would undertake a walk towards one of the highest points of the mountain range, today's trail is "Trilho do Monge" and while we enjoy nature, we will travel back to more than 3 thousand years before Christ to admire an archaeological wonder that dates back to the iron age, a walk of more than 5km of adventures!π΅π»π²
From here I decided to embark on my adventure, this small village is known because it has one of the few structures in Europe with a design that imitates the castle of "Disneyland", although it has nothing else interesting to see, being in Malveira da Serra is mandatory to be able to photograph this beautiful architecture. It is a private property that for many years was abandoned so for you to reach it and admire its beauty you should go through a route inside of the forests of Sintra named: "Quinta da Felicidade". To my surprise I found out that it had been bought and restored so I have to settle for a photograph from the outside!π»ππ§
When we arrive at this sign that says "Sintra Natural Park" then we have reached the protected reserve, remember to have appropriate behavior with nature. We will then turn left and begin to walk along a narrow street that will take us up to the mountain! In this photo at the distance you can see the "Peninha Palace" which is an old Christian Church more than 550 meters away and which we can reach by walking or taking a private car!π²π§
The first records of colonization at Sintra dates back to the Romans in the 2nd century BC due to the geographical constitution. The land where I am located is full of minerals and rich in limestone and other varieties of rocks. The coast is less than 10km away which makes it a place rich in natural resources! Even though the Romans left archaeological records in this area, I am on my way to a monolithic structure from the 3rd century BC!ππποΈ
At this point we must be already at more than 250 meters of elevation. I remind you that we are going to reach a height of 491 meters while the highest point of Sintra is 551 meters. I am now looking for some stones to make a stop and have lunch, so far the path made me feel good and It hasn't been a problem! Nice weather but quite windy! Bring a jacket if you come this time of the year!πππ§
When we reach the sign we have to make a detour of one kilometer to reach the viewpoints where our final destination awaits us. This is the most difficult part of the walk because the path stops being a road and we enter uneven land, I suppose in winter it must be be quite slippery and difficult, however all the effort is compensated by the view!ποΈπ²
I was fascinated by this trail, I am already a few meters away from reaching the end of my adventure, and I am sure I gave you many reasons to visit Portugal as a backpacker and go on great adventures, everything is totally safe, that is why there are people who come and stay in the mountains. to sleep!ποΈπ΅π»
Well, I'll summarize what the place is about. First of all, it is considered the heritage of Portugal. It is a megalithic funerary structure that was built in the third century BC exactly in the Chalcolithic, let's say when man entered the age of bronze! To preserve the structure, these concrete monuments were built bordering the stones in the shape of a "tombstone."π§π§π»ββοΈπ§π»βπ«π¨π»βπ
