Hi Sketchbook Artists and Hivers
I drew this with more attention to expression than perfection. The face carries a calm, almost unreadable mood, while the heavy cross-hatching gives the features a certain weight without making the portrait feel overly polished.
I wanted to eyes to do most of the talking here, the kind of look that suggests there is a thought behind it, but doesn't reveal what that thought is. The loose treatment of the hair and the varied strokes around the face were intentional too, I liked keeping some of the drawing raw rather than forcing every line into place.
It feels less like a portrait trying to impress and more like a moment caught in thought.
