Tell us what your hobby is, why you enjoy it, how you do it and what you need to make it happen, what's involved, how it makes you feel when engaging with it or anything else you'd like to share about it. Blogging on hive and playing Splinterlands is excluded from the topic.*

The rules of engagement right there in front of me. I put it there in the (probably vain) hope that I might follow the rules. How hard can it be?

The first thought was that my hobby might be aging gracefully. How do you think that is working out for me?

This selfie is one of maybe 5 I have taken and represents my first outing under general pandemic rules clear back in spring 2020. Part of my mission for the day was to buy a mask (I didn't-prices were WAY too high) and get two weeks worth of groceries. That bandana is a Geico give away from a motorcycle show. If you look closely you can see the lizard upside down over my mouth.

The first realistic thought was the obvious. Motorcycles. I spend an inordinate amount of time riding and working on and thinking about motorcycles. But motorcycles to me are not a hobby, they are life itself. Breathing would be more of a hobby for me than motorcycles.

Photography? Maybe. I love taking photographs and looking at them to remind me of places I have been on a motorcycle. Am I hopeless? Most likely.

Camping? Hey, there's a possibility. I love camping and being out and about particularly when I'm riding a motorcycle! It's a challenging hobby being able to pack everything you need on a motorcycle. That chair that is just left of the fire is my best piece of camping gear by far. Made by a guy in Tennessee it's crafted like jewelry and breaks down to a surprisingly manageable size.

I know. I know. I really do know this time. It's maps. Good old paper maps, I have hundreds. This particular one is a meter long and hangs on my living room wall. The shading on the map is road density. Not the population, not the terrain, but how many roads per square mile. I look at that map every day and imagine the places that are closer to white than black...

I have old (100 year old) maps and brand new current ones. I actually treasure them all. Makes a way better hobby than aging gracefully, don't you think?

All words and photos in this post are mine, for better or worse.
