This is more about the yards behind the mailboxes. Once again, these are all taken in our neighborhood on our daily foray to the desert. There is a lot of 'diversity' in yards around here.
Some yards are incredibly detailed and precise. A place for everything and everything in it's place. Even if you don't know what the things are or where else they might go!
Some are pretty specific social commentary: The Gila River confluence with the Colorado is just outside Yuma proper. There is no river, the entire Gila has been diverted for irrigation and the result isn't even really a trickle. This guy named his RV shed in it's honor :)
Sometimes, you just use what you have. A dead ironwood and a dead Saguaro make a pretty impressive yard decoration. That collection of Saguaro bones has to be permitted just as if it were a living Cactus. It is just simply illegal to own a Saguaro without a permit. And yes, the state enforces that with a vengeance!
These people obviously cut down a pair of palms for what ever reason. Instead of pulling the stumps, they had an artist come in and surface sculpt and dye Kokopelli on them. A pretty impressive display!
Tired of your Ficus tree blocking your view? There is a solution. Trim it to bare, paint it white and hang a couple of bird feeders on the carcass. No problem.
This is one of our favorite places on the way. Sam particularly likes it because they have dog cookies to bribe the doggies from pooping in the yard. I particularly like it because he is a rider and she is ALWAYS changing the yard. I mean, every week or 10 days something new happens here.
The horse is probably the newest item, it's been there about a month. It started out as a brown and white paint, but within a week it was a black and white paint. You can't see the donkey that also got repainted, is now a black and white pinto... This place makes me giggle twice a day.
I'm not sure how this palm tree got it's shape, and whether or not it was intentional, but there is a surprise here that makes this my favorite of the whole bunch. Check out the next picture to see what I mean.
