In this case, it's not seeing things I don't normally see, but noticing things I don't normally notice. Mailboxes. Every house in the neighborhood has one and many are worth noticing.
Notice the artwork. You see, there is a thriving art community in nearby Mexico and you can get most anything you can bring to these street artists for $10 USD or less. It all depends on the traffic of the day and your negotiating skills.
Just so you don't think I walked all over the place to find these examples, this is the normal route Sam and I take to the desert every single day. The area inside that box is where all of these came from, it's a really common touch here in Yuma, AZ.
Some are obvious fanboys. This guy has a matching mural painted on his pickup tailgate. As well as his satellite TV dish. Yes, that's a thing here. Infact, you can go to painter's alley in Algadones, RC, Mexico and they have blank dishes that you can take home with you...
This is the only one I've seen on our casual walks that is a night scene.
Did I mention that these things are all painted right out on the street? While you wait? With spray cans?????
Seriously. This is the Bob Ross school of art gone absolutely crazy. The artists are crazy good and it never takes a half hour to paint one.
Kokopelli is a popular theme. He is thought to represent a peddlar that went between tribes and camps in the days of the Pueblo People. He carried his goods in a pack on his back and announced his coming by playing a flute.
Some are reminders of home, or maybe places of interest in other travels.
This one had a flag on the flag as provided by the owner!
Lest you thing that there is no room for individuality in this cookie cutter world, I'll leave you with this mailbox. It's clearly a one off design!
The Mailboxes of Yuma County. Doesn't really have the same ring as the Bridges of Madison County, does it? I guess that means that Clint Eastwood won't be playing my part and that Lassie won't play Sam's role. Pity, really.
This wraps up a pretty mundane #WednesdayWalk. It's just mailboxes, and just in my really little neighborhood. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have!
