I am a dog person. Always been. Just generally speaking I get along better with dogs (and animals in general) than people. Part of that is because I am pretty solitary and really live a mostly solo life. Part is probably because I tend towards assholeness. There are probably other parts.

My Sam has co-parents. His behavior and patterns are very different when he is living there than when he lives here. But the thing that doesn't ever change is what he gives to me (us) every single day. I'm sure there are times when he keeps me on the rails.

One thing Sam doesn't do is woof to wake the wife. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are very nearly silent so that just about can't happen :)
