I actually have a friend that's a defense lawyer. She also rides motorcycles, which is how I got to know her in the first place. She told a story one day about her first capital case when she was a 'court appointed' attorney. She said "I used the basic 'My client shot this guy because he had shooting coming'". He not only avoided the needle, he walked.
