Funny you should mention 'in trouble with the law' this very morning.
I got a voicemail from a sheriff's deputy that I saw early this morning. Just a 'please call back' thing. I tried to call back and he's not there, so I left a message for him. Unless they found a bundle of money with my name on the rubber band around it, I'm sure I'll find out what he wants way plenty soon enough.
Weird thing. He knew how to pronounce my name. In fact, he called me Tom and not Thomas which is the ID name. So somebody told him my name. English speakers do not pronounce my name as I do. Plain and simple.
Weird thing two. When I called back I got another deputy directly. Not a switchboard, not an operator, but straight to a desk.
I can't imagine a single thing I've done to warrant a call from the local constabulary. I live so quiet that those guys hardly know my name. Guess I'll find out.
One way or the other I know the drill. I am a common man, citizen of the Republic. Common law will work just fine with me.
Thanks for the timely reminder. It wasn't you that told them how to pronounce my name, was it? Just kidding.
