First off: The politico's of the nation have me incredibly pissed. This endless
'trust me and don't forget to vote for me' bullshit has me near crazy. How about if I just say that Houston isn't the only place that is getting bullshitted from on high.
There is a disconnect here. It's between cases and confirmed cases. People that haven't had a test are just as sick and contagious as those that have had a test. And there are a guzbucking lot more sick that haven't had the test as those that have.
If you are goofy enough to expose yourself to every sick SOB in Houston you could request a test. You have a pretty good resume to get one, all in all. No longer young (we aren't old), family with underlying health concerns. I'm pretty sure Texas and Houston specifically is a lot like Arizona. The answer would be: Are you a first responder or medical worker? Are you rich? Are you an elected official or somebody that has a chance to be elected in the current cycle? Are you a pro athlete or affiliated with a team?
If you answer no to these conditions they will tell you to come back when you are actually sick, or better yet, take the ambulance (known as the foothills taxi around here) to the E Room and they will deal with you. Or not, depending on...
The math is pretty straight forward. You have 200 cases, two will die. That's too small a sample to qualify, but you get the idea. That is NOT 200 confirmed cases, but actual. The huge problem for all of the US is that the dead people don't just wander off into the prairie to die, they go to the hospital and infect 10 other people on the way. The bottleneck for any community is the number of beds that can be occupied. Particularly as one of the ten people that our friend above infected is a medical worker. As they switch sides from 'caring for' to 'being cared for' the number of beds goes down pretty fast.
The key to saving a LOT of lives is for less people to get infected now. We are probably going to end up with at least a 50% infected rate but if they all come in the next month Houston is truly guzbucked. It's really the only variable we can do anything about right now. That and wrap your head with toilet paper.
TLDR I know. I haven't written all this down at one time because exposing people to the probability serves no purpose except to intensify the TP shortage.
Sorry this was so long. And really sorry that I took the edge off an excellent post.
