A two-fer at 650 yards (rough calculation)? That's some serious shooting-per the norm for you.
So it was a deer infestation. Not what I'd call it but he did see four different deer.
Different situation entirely, but we were never concerned about deer on our range. I never ever saw readily visible evidence of their eating. Once in a while I'd see tracks and cropped grass, but I never ever saw a spot grazed down by deer. Cows, on the other hand, will damn near eat every blade of grass in a given area.
My old man would shit himself if he saw 4 coyotes on our range. We'd all be out hunting right away. I could never see that coyotes ever did one bit of damage unless they got into new (I mean less than month old) calves. Coyotes took lots of rabbits and I have seen grass patches eaten to the dirt by rabbits. Different perspective, I guess.
Thanks for a great post. I love reading about the difference between my casualness and your process.
