I had to leave work early so that I could attend this function. A friend (Nikhil) picked me up from work and we went all the way to Manjeshwar which is in KERALA and was around 32 KM of travel. So it pretty much was a small trip π
Took us about an hour to reach the bride's place. The two of us will be staying over at the grooms place later in the day.
So as soon as we got their we dumped our bags and went straight off to have lunch because we were famished.. At least I was π
We had a good lunch seafood lunch which consisted of Mackerel gravy, white rice, lemon pickle, and powdered dry prawns. This is basically a typical Mangalorean Meal.
When I went to dispose my plate, I found this sweetheart napping on the couch outside π He turns out to be the neighbours kitty who doesnβt ever sleep at is own home π
Somewhere around 4 the event started and Divya got dressed up and all of the guests proceeded to the terrace of the house for the main haldi event.
It was insane seeing her get covered in haldi (Turmeric) by all here family and friends. I look at lot of videos and i'm so happy to say that i've finally made a video that i'm super proud of π like Damnnn the video came out so well, You can find it at the end of the post.
The Haldi ceremony is a ritual holy bath also known as pithi ceremony, which is one of the pre-wedding ceremonies in India. Turmeric (haldi), oil and water are applied to both the bride and groom by married women on the morning of the wedding. The mixture is believed to bless the couple before the wedding. It is known to have properties that leave the skin fair and glowing. The haldi in some Indian communities is considered auspicious and also signifies protection.
The auspiciousness of this ingredient and its colour brings prosperity to the couple to start off their new life together. In many other cultures, this is also the reason the bride and groom wear yellow clothes on their wedding day. It is known by several names in different regions, like ubtan, mandha and tel baan.
Post the Haldi Ceremony the brides maids danced a bit and then all of us went off to the beach to see the sunset, so basically both the Bride & the Groom live right next to the beach it's like a 5 minute walk from their respective homes.
And like wow the Sunsets in Kerala are just MAD the sun looks amazing here π the 5 of us close friends sat at the beach for about an hour I guess before we headed back.
It was a bit humid so we went back up to terrace to sit under the fan, We got back some puffed rice snacks from a vendor at the beach and we sat on the terrace and had these amazing snacks. It consists of finely chopped carrots, onions, raw mangoes a bit of oil, salt some spices and puffed rice, In some places the add in roasted peanuts as well.
there was not much people there at her place at the moment but after an hour like around 8 PM I guess when we finally decided to come down from the terrace, Her house was packed with people at least 200 of them and Jesus that was a lot of people π
The Bride to be had changed into another outfit to meet with the guests and take pictures, we got our pictures taken as well and itβll take some time before I even receive those images.
Post this we left to the Grooms house for his Bachelor Party.
It wasn't a Bachelor Bachelor type of party, It was just a formal type of gathering of all the grooms friends. It took us about 20 minutes to reach Darahak's (The Grooms) house and oh my god the guest here were tenfold, Approximately 500 people were present for this gatherings.
The dinner here was split in two halves, one side were the Non-alcoholics and the other side you had the alcoholics π and I obviously went over to the alcoholic side with my friends.
We were served with the greatest of Chicken Sukka, Spicy banana chips and we had a selection of Whiskey, Scotch & Beer and for mixers we had Soda, Pepsi & Water.
I usually have it Neat or on the rocks but since I was having Scotch I though its better to get it mixed a bit so 90ml of Scotch at 30ml of pepsi π and we were there for hours drinking and eating. I even met my 11th grade classmate
Post dinner few of the guests gathered around for a quick dance before the head out and call it a night.
Here's The Video Of The Entire Haldi Ceremony π
