Have you ever been in situations where because you don't like a particular aspect of a field, you cancel every other thing in relation to that field. This was my view about the blockbusters movie squid game.
For more than three weeks now I have been seeing post, videos,GIF, tiktok clips about squid game. On a normal day I am not a fan of Korean movie so I had very little interest in checking it out. My friends messaged me on countless occasion asking me if I had gotten the movie. My hobby is watching movie actually, so I literally had all the blockbusters on my hard drive.
Korean movies are not just it for me, I even convinced myself it was all hype. But with time after seeing short clips from squid game and my friend narrating what it was all about. I gained interest and wanted to give it a try.
Getting the movie
On Friday after work I knew it was going to be a long weekend so I made plan to chill. I downloaded the movie and was ready to feast. Bought myself two bottles of drink and some potatoes chips. It was definitely going to be an interesting weekend. Made sure I paid for electricity that same day. To be honest I was total hyped.
On Saturday after doing my laundry and house chores I set up my system in preparation for the movie. Brought out my chilled drink and sweet chips I was ready. Ate a little before finally starting the movie.
My thoughts after the first episode
Episode 1 got me attracted, I knew I was going to finish the whole season that same day. I really thought the old man was going to agree to stay back for the money. I was shocked he declined, so how will this game continue ? I asked myself a whole lot of questions.
I spent a total of about 9hours 30 minutes watching this movie. Actually, I could understand why the movie got that hype, it is worth it. From the production to the ,artistic designs and acting. Who would have thought the old man was part of organisers.
Lessons learnt
I learnt alot of lessons from the movie. One of which is that nobody really cares about you, they care more about what they can gain from you. If you don't have anything to offer people can easily switch on you.
I see the movie as an actual representative of life. How people live and think without regards to how others are fairing and how we react to times when we can either choose ourselves over others. A clear representation of survival of the fittest.
