As was normal right at day break the rooster started crowing not aware that today was to be Ben’s first step towards be a wizard. Ben woke up to the crowing and stretched out the kinks in his back from sleeping on his old bed roll. Looking around he noticed Zim was still fast asleep in his bed. So Ben started his morning routine. He went and got fresh water from the well thinking Zim might want to freshen up when he woke up. As he entered his humble home with the bucket from the well he noticed Zim was sitting at the table so he sat th bucket by the wash basin and asked “ did you sleep well Zim”
The reply was slow coming as Zim said “ I have slept in many strange places but I must say you have the most insistent rooster I have ever heard.”
With a slight laugh Ben replied “ that’s why I keep him around.” Ben continued his morning routine rinsing his face and washing the taste of sleep from his mouth then he asked “ I know the tower is pretty far to the north how should I dress and what should we bring?”
Zim replied “ you needn’t pack much just what ever personal things you can’t stand to leave behind and as far as the way you should dress I think you should try this on.” With a small flourish of his hand Zim produced a robe like the one he was wearing out of thin air. Ben knew Zim had used magic to make the robe but it was still a little amazing to see. Ben hurried over to take the robe and try it on. The robe fit perfectly but was loose in the middle at seeing this Zim twisted his hand slightly and was now holding a copper rope similar to the gold one he was wearing only copper. Ben tied the copper rope around his waist and looked at his reflection in the window. The blood red robes actually suited him and showed off the red highlights in his hair and beard.
Zim told Ben that they had a long journey and they should leave as soon as Ben collected what he wanted to bring. Ben was at a loss his mind was racing what should he bring Zim said to only bring the things he couldn’t live without but how do you leave everything behind. As though reading his thoughts Zim said “ don’t worry about what you leave behind you can come back and get some of your things after your training at the tower.” So Ben grabbed his pack and started looking around at what he couldn’t leave behind and decided none of his things were really that important so he sat his pack on the table and told Zim he was ready to go
Zim was quite impressed by Ben’s decision so he told Ben he would cast a spell that would freeze time on Ben’s property until he returned and everything would be as it was now when he returned. Ben was almost amazed at hearing this but then thought Zim was a powerful wizard after all so he thanked Zim and started for the door.
Ben was was headed towards the barn when Zim came outside Zim told Ben not to worry about the horse or wagon that they would be walking and taking a boat.
Zim and Ben came to the edge of Ben’s farm Zim paused and Ben could feel an immense power coming from Zim and noticed the dragon on the top of Zim’s staff spread it’s wings. Ben thought he could see geometric shapes in the air around his farm as Zim was casting what had to be a very powerful spell and just like that his farm was gone. Ben didn’t know what happened it was as though the land surrounding his farm just closed in and his farm ceased to exist. Ben saw Zim looked a little tired after casting the spell but had to know what he had done.
Ben blurted out “what did you do I saw those shapes in the air and my farm is gone.”
Zim asked “ what do you mean you saw shapes in the air? And don’t worry I just froze your farm in time and sent it to another dimension.
“What do you mean don’t worry you sent my farm to another dimension!”Ben exclaimed.
“I’ll explain in a moment but I need to know what you mean by you saw shapes in the air.”Zim said impatiently.
Ben calmed down and explained “I sensed great power and then I saw shapes in the air around my farm there were symbols like a sideways eight and some others like multi sided boxes.”
“ Incredible! “ Zim exclaimed “ you are a true seer you can see a spell cast by another wizard.”
“You have your answer now tell me what you did with my farm.” Ben said impatiently.
Zim started in his teacher voice again “ those sideways eights were the symbols for time and Infiniti and those other shapes were the opening to the storage dimension where your farm will be till you are ready to come back to it. What is more important is that you could see the spell as I cast it that will make teaching you so much easier.”
“ That’s great “ Ben thought but was still worried about his farm.
“ We are burning daylight and we have a long journey ahead of us so I think we should get going.” Zim said. And their journey began.
