(Peace of God! Christ is born! Merry Christmas!)
Yesterday we celebrated the first day of Christmas here in Serbia, so the first place among the photos in this winter blog belongs to the oak leaf. The oak tree is especially precious here because on the day before Christmas, on Christmas Eve, January 6th, we are going to the forest early in the morning, before sunrise, to cut a small oak tree that we call Badnjak. The Badnjak symbolizes the tree that righteous Joseph put on the fire to warm the cold cave in Bethlehem where Jesus Christ was born. 鈽猴笍
A few days ago, when the snow covered our whole village so beautifully, I went out for a walk right away to catch a few good photos. I thought I would just quickly snap around twenty similar shots, freeze from the cold and then rush back into the warm house for a hot tea. But nooo! Every single millimeter of that snowy madness outside was interesting to me and I didn't even pay attention to the temperature which was like around 0掳C.
Tomorow will be -14掳C 馃槷 I just saw weather forecast. It seems like I lied to you, Erikah. We'll see how it would be, brrrrrrr.
Has been maybe five or six days since I took these photos and in the meantime we have had a mix of clear bluish skies and ice rain, then a bit of snow melting and now it's snowin again, adding back what had disappeared. Sooo lovely! A real Christmas fairy tale. 馃グ For many years Christmas in Serbia did not look like this. One year it was even so warm that we went to the forest to get the Badnjak wearing only light hoodies, without a jacket or a vest. That year we did not even take our hats, scarves and gloves out of the closet. There was simply no need for that.
If you were wondering where a perfectly dry half of a pistachio shell came from, you are looking at the guilty one, hihi. No, of course we do not have a pistachio tree in our forest. xD Before that walk I filled both of my pockets to snack on along the way. Naturally, you have to carry something interesting for your teeth. Older people usually have cookies and candies and we have pistachios, healthy food, nuts, this and that... (:
I am really excited to share with you all photos from that day, as well as some from yesterday, when the main models of nature fashion were frozen drops. But shhh, there's enough material for at least three blogs like this. I won't, I won't bombard you every single day, but probably every second one. 馃榿
Before I go to sleep and dream sweet dreams, I want to wish the same to you with a part from the poem of our legendary poet Jovan Jovanovi膰 Zmaj:
"袗 褕褌邪 屑芯卸械 蟹懈屑邪 屑械薪懈,
褕褌邪 屑懈 屑芯卸械, 褕褌邪 屑懈 褋屑械?!
袧械泻 屑懈 薪芯褋懈褯 锌芯褑褉胁械薪懈,
械褌芯 褌芯 褬械, 褌芯 褬械 褋胁械."
literally translated to:
"What can winter do to me,
what can it do, what is it allowed to?!
Let my nose turn red
and that's it, that's all." 馃槉
