I have not had the chance to have a pet, and so I don't know how it feels, but I remember a friend not eating for a full day after her dog died. She was so sad for a full week.

I guess loving someone without expecting anything might be the definition of unconditional love, and I guess this is what we should have for our children, spouse, and pets.
