I learnt the handicraft of leather-making in Taghzout. This land is one the oldest places known with handicraft in Morocco, there were Jewish artisans here.
I opened my eyes on my father and grandfather making things out of leather, and from a generation to another, I became an artisan. I had the chance to work in many places in Morocco, but i always come back here, the place where I belong and learnt the handicraft. Now, I want to pass this handicraft to the new generation and bring life back to this artisanal center that they built and forget about.
This region used to be well known with many other handicraft activities such as "iron making" and "carpets". But, these handicrafts are no more excite, because most of the artisans died or can't handle it anymore.
Now, the region is known with embroidery on leather objects and the most known product is called "Za'aboula" which is the bag a knight wears in Fantasia festivals. Also, it used as a decoration in houses. It is the one above my head.
Taghzout is the last commune in El-Houssaima region on the way to Taounat
