Here is an excellent movie about the prison world! In honesty, i think i will have to rate this movie "Shot Caller" above any other films written and directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Yeah! You heard me right!) Including Angel Has Fallen or Snitch. Although, this is a complete different genre from the previous movies he'd directed, but i would say this is by far his greatest feat in directing a pure masterpiece. With this movie, Ric Roman Waugh delved into the mysterious questions on ''What happens when an ordinary person suddenly find himself immersed in the prison world?.

Synopsis: A newly released prison gangster is forced by the leaders of his gang to orchestrate a major crime with a brutal rival gang on the streets of Southern California.

Review: I serioulsy loved this movie and could watch it over and over again, as the story was told with such realism! In fact! This was the most interesting gritty crime movie I've seen in a very long time. I was completely engrossed in the story, the characters and the writing. It was an incredible joy to watch. Simply a modern movie deserving of classic regard!

The work of writing around the character of Jacob Harlon (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is what i really liked about the movie. Watching this movie, one can easily observe the evolution of the character, who at first is frightened by the barbarism that reigns in prison, but quickly gets close to the right people to stay alive. Step by step, he learned and master the workings of prison life. However, deep down, he does not adhere to the ideology advocated by the gang, and he will realize that he must act intelligently to put his family safe, even to sacrifice himself. - Personally, what i felt the most striking about the main protagonist character is that; What happens to him can actually happen to everyone, and the choices he makes can be made by everyone.

Overall, "Shot Caller" stands as one of a rare collection of films that will remain to be validated in its obscurity and undervalued acknowledgement. I am more than willing to rate this movie as "AAA".
