Do you know comfrey?
Hello, dear steemians, especially to the great community of @naturalmedicine. This time I bring you a post about a plant used in Venezuela to treat minor fractures, symptoms related to arthritis and sprains and to heal wounds, called Comfrey.
This plant came to me at an unexpected time, because my mother had a sharp fall that caused a very painful ankle injury. A very close neighbor recommended it to us and by applying it as a paste, we could control the pain and swelling. After seeing the results, I decided to investigate this plant and discovered that it could be used to treat other diseases.
For this reason, below, I present the information I gathered about it.
Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is a medicinal plant that has anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Its use is external and serves to treat ailments related to fractures, sprains or sprains and skin lesions.
This plant is known as solder, comfrey, synfite, grass for wounds, grass cuttings, cow tongue, ear cow, grass of the cardinals. Formerly, people who used them considered that this plant could join bones and weld wounds.
This plant grows in Europe and America. It is considered a weed. It is used to heal broken bones. Some studies determined that its use should be done only externally, since comfrey has substances that can cause liver cancer, so it was banned for internal use.
The parts that are used of this plant are the root and the leaves. This plant has a large amount of mucilage, saponin steroids, allantoin, vitamin B12, among others. Among its benefits it is possible to highlight the following: regenerating, astringent, demulcent antiinfamatoria and cicatrizante.
