Some people are more interested in other people’s well being than their own
It is also a privilege and a great pleasure to be able to serve humanity the way we do and contribute our quota to the improvement of vision. We thus always lucky to have the opportunity to do so and as most of us already know by now preparation for outreaches are never as simply as it may seem but it is always worth it due to excitement and joy the act come with and feeling of fulfilment.
This time we intend to have an outreach at Nkawie Basic School, a government school based in Kumasi in the second capital of Ghana in the Ashanti Region. You may have also noticed that nowadays we visit schools a lot, this is because our vision is crucial when it comes to studying, when we don’t see right we tend not to study right and this causes lots of abysmal performance on the part of students, unfortunately for some of these students they may never realise that the whole cause is just their vision until such opportunities like this comes around and set things on the right track.
I live and I learn but I always wait my turn.
What is @bettervision about?
@bettervision is is a project initiated by
@nattybongo and friends to give back to the society the knowledge and skill acquired through the Optometric Studies in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. It is an outreach system where we visit the less privileged communities to offer free eye screening services and education to the people within the community
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors.
To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care.
To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks
To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years.
To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization.
