Hi, internet folks – how’s it going? Today I want to talk to you about a film that I really didn’t like at all, but which I feel has some redeeming qualities – it’s called *The Evil Dead*.
Hola, gente de Internet ¿todo bien? Hoy quiero hablarles de una película que en verdad no me gustó para nada pero que siento que tiene puntos restacables y setrata de Posesión Infernal
I have to admit that my criticism is based more on my personal tastes and on how I perceive fear across different genres, and on the fact that two genres such as ‘gore’ and ‘horror’ shouldn’t be mixed because it feels odd. To me, it’s like mixing *Aliens* with demonic possessions; I feel they don’t go together, or that it could be handled differently.
Tengo que admitir que mi crítica se basa más en mis gustos personales y en como percibo el miedo según sus géneros y en como dos géneros como el "Gore" y el "Terror" no deberían mezclarse porque resulta extraño, Para mi es como mezclar Aliens con posesiones demoniacas, siento que no tienen que ver o que se podría trabajar de otro modo
The first thing I have to say is that the film mixes demonic possession and gore; the former belongs to the horror genre and I feel they don’t go well together, especially if the latter is overused, as it detracts from the former. Instead of being scared by the erratic behaviour of the possessed character, you end up feeling disgusted by the absurd amount of blood on screen, Furthermore, I feel that shocking the audience with blood is one of the easiest and most over-exploited forms of ‘horror’ in cinema. Personally, it neither scares nor surprises me; it just really disgusts me. So, although there were parts where I felt the horror was handled well and which I liked because they evoked genuine fear, the scenes of unnecessary gore just felt anticlimactic to me.
Lo primero que tengo que decir es que la película mezcla posesión demoniaca y gore, la primera pertenece al género del terror y siento que no combinan bien juntas sobre todo si se abusa de la utilización de la segunda ya que resta protagonismo a la primera, en vez de asustarte por las cosas erráticas que hace el personaje poseído, terminas asqueandote por la cantidad absurda desangre que hay en pantalla, además siento que impresionar con sangre es una de las ramas o fuentes del "terror" más fáciles de abordar y sobre explotada a nivel de cine. En lo personal no me asusta ni sorprende, solo me asquea mucho, asi que aunque hubo partes en que siento que hubo buen manejo del terror y que me gustaban pordar miedo auténtico, las escenas de gore innecesario solo se me hacían anticlimáticas
Leaving aside the film’s unnecessary gore, there are quite a few standout scenes in terms of how the horror is handled, starting with another aspect of the film that helps in this regard: the make-up, which is very much in the style of Regan in *The Exorcist* – a technique we know works very well. That sort of contact lens really helps to emphasise her gaze; when she looks out of the corner of her eye… it’s simply spine-chilling.
Dejando de lado el gore innecesario de la película, hay bastantes escenas destacables dentro del manejo del terror, empezando por otro aspecto de la película que ayuda en este aspecto: El maquillaje, es muy al estilo de Regan en El Exorcista, recurso que sabemos que funciona muy bien, ese tipo de lentes de contacto ayuda mucho enfatizar las miradas, cuando mira de reojo... es sencillamente espeluznante
The horror scenes draw on the ‘analogue horror’ genre, which is simply that type of horror where the characters behave erratically and absurdly, yet within the context of the scene they evoke unease and fear. Examples of this include a character walking on the walls, moving on all fours, walking backwards, eating objects they shouldn’t, and so on. In this film, the first scene of this sort is when the children’s mother goes into the kitchen to ‘make eggs’ but smashes them against the frying pan, shells and all, whilst saying hurtful things about her family in a guttural voice; or when she is burning up with fever and her relatives put her in the bath to cool her down, but she leaps up to the ceiling and shouts at them from there.
Las escenas de terror se tomaron de la rama del "terror analógico" que no es más que aquel tipo de terror en donde los personajes se comportan de forma errática y absurda pero en el contexto de la escena generan inquietud y miedo, ejemplos de esto puede ser cuando un personaje camina sobre las paredes, se mueve en cutro patas, camina hacia atras, come objetos que no debería, ect. En el cao de esta película la primera escena de este tipo es cuando la madre de losniños va hasta la cocina a "preparar huevos" pero los estrella contra el sarten con todo y cascara mientras dice cosas hirientes sobre su familia con una voz gutural, o cuando está hirviedo en fiebre y sus familiares la meten en labañera para resfrescarla pero esta da un salto al techo y desde ahi les grita
Now this is even more a matter of my personal taste, but to see that the antagonist cannot be destroyed in any way (which strikes me as unlikely in a ‘realistic’ context) is disappointing and, moreover, makes no sense, since if that were the case, humanity would be wiped out in a matter of hours; I feel that, even when writing a work of fiction, the story must adhere to a well-balanced set of basic rules regarding what is possible and what is impossible, so as not to fall into plot holes within the very universe the story is set in.
Ya esto va aun más orientado a mi gusto personal pero ver que la entidad antagonista no puede ser destruida de ningún modo (cosa que me parece poco probable en un contexto "realista") es decepcionante y además no tene sentido ya que si eso fuese asi, la humanidad se acabaría en cuestión de horas, siento que, aunque hagas una historia de ficción, esta debe guardar reglas básicas de posibilidades e imposibilidades bien equilibradas para no caer en errores argumentales dentro del mismo universo que la hstoria cuenta
Overall, as I said, I didn’t like the film at all, although it does have some redeeming features, such as the performances, a few old-school horror scenes and the antagonist’s make-up; apart from that, I hated the rest of it.
En general no me gustó para nada la peli como dije aunque tiene elementos rescatables como las actuaciones, algunas escenas de terror analógico y el maquillaje de la antagonista, de ahi en fuera, odié el resto.
