Hi, internet folks – how’s it going? Today I want to tell you about *Hide and Seek*, a thriller I watched yesterday, which has a pretty shocking plot twist that’s so well executed you don’t see it coming.

The story tells of David, a man who, after losing his wife – who took her own life in the bathroom at home – moves with his daughter to a village in the hope that she might be able to put the traumatic event behind her (as she witnessed the whole thing); but far from feeling at ease about it, he begins to notice his daughter’s interaction with a certain ‘Charlie’ – an ‘imaginary friend’ who is more real than he, David, realises
La historia nos habla de David un hombre que tras perder a su esposa la cual se suicidó en la bañera de casa, se muda con su hija a un pueblo con la esperanza deq ue ella pueda olvidar el evento traumático (debido a que ella precenció todo) pero lejos de sentirse tranquilo al respecto, empieza a notar la interacción de su hija con un tal “Charlie” un “amigo imaginario” que es más real de lo que él, David, cree
I have to start by saying that there isn’t a single bad actor here, particularly Dakota Fanning, who was very young at the time and did an excellent job – though, of course, I’m not taking anything away from Robert De Niro
Tengo que empezar diciendo que no hay mal actor aquí, sobre todo por Dakota Fanning, quien estaba pequeña en ese momento y hacía un excelente trabajo, aunque claro está, no estoy desmeritando a Robert De Niro
I feel that both actors fulfilled the demands of their respective roles so skilfully that you don’t suspect there is anything more hidden behind the ‘obvious’, and this is also down to the structure of the film itself, as well as the story; as it is told from David’s perspective, all the events that take place seem like isolated situations revolving around the same ‘invisible’ character Charlie. Charlie is the sole link between each event, but it is not until the film’s climax that we truly understand who Charlie is, what he wants and what drives him, whilst also realising that he is not, in himself, an intangible being
Siento que ambos actores cumplieron con lo que pedían sus respectivos papeles de una manera tan bien trabajada que no sospechas que se esconde algo más detrás de lo “evidente” y en eso también tiene que ver la estructura de la película en sí misma, además de la historia, como está contada de la perspectiva de David, todos los eventos ocurridos parecen situaciones aisladas en torno a un mismo personaje “invisible” Charlie, Charlie es la única conexión de cada evento pero no es sino hasta el climax de la película, que realmente entendemos quien es Charlie, que quiere y que lo mueve además de darnos cuenta que no es en si mismo un ser intangible
The film plays with different camera angles and shots to tell the story without spoiling the ending right from the start (so it really does take us by surprise). It uses shots such as point-of-view shots and close-ups of characters who see ‘Charlie’ and, from their expressions, you can tell that something isn’t quite right with him; you can see surprise and fear, and this gradually gives us a slight inkling of what’s going on, though we don’t realise it fully until the climax, so this is one of the aspects I like most about this film. If someone had told me Shyamalan directed it, I would have believed them, as he is the master of the plot twist, and to be honest, this film really took me by surprise.
La película juega con angulos de cámaras y planos diversos para contarnos la historia sin espoilearnos de buenas a primeras el descenlace (por lo que realmente nos toma por sorpresa) se usan planos como las subjetivas y los primeros planos de personajes que ven a “Charlie” y en sus rostros nota que algo no va bien con él, se nota sorpresa y miedo y eso nos va dando alguna ligera idea que no constatamos sino hasta el climax, asi que es uno de los aspectos que más me gustan de esta película. Si me dijeran que la dirigió Shyamalan me lo habría creído ya que es el padre del plot twist y la verdad esta película me sorprendió
Usually, when I watch horror or thriller films, I don’t have very high expectations (although older films did have those qualities or elements that made them good – perhaps that’s the case with this one too), but this film exceeded my expectations; it keeps you hooked on the mystery of finding out who or what Charlie is, and even encourages the audience to speculate right up until the climax.
Usualmente cuando veo películas de terror o suspenso, no tengo muchas expectativas al respecto (aunque las películas viejas mantenían esas características o factores que las hacían buenas, quizá es el caso de esta) pero esta película superó mis expectativas, mantiene el interés en el misterio de descubrir quién o qué es Charlie e incluso invita a los espectadores a hacer conjeturas hasta que llega el clímax
In my opinion, it’s a pretty good film with two plot twists – the first one and the one at the end of the film. It’s interesting and very well structured, as well as having a very well-developed story and characters – 10 out of 10.
En mi opinión es una película bastante buena con doble plot twist, el primero y el del final de la peli. Es interesante y está muy bien estructurada, además de tener una historia y personajes muy bien desarrollados, un 10 de 10
