Good post, Ray. Owning pets is a huge responsibility, much like having kids.
They have their personalities and can create unique problems.

I am sorry you have lost your pets, but you are now dealing with an empty nest situation not unlike when your children leave the house. It was a major bummer for my wife, who is a caregiver and nurturer at heart.
For me, it was a sense of freedom.

I guess it is all perspective.
