We are back on the #weekend-engagement. On this weekend, we were given a lot of prompts with some really interesting ideas. Food for thought is always a main course when you are talking about he G-dog. And I should probably not rhyme my words, lest I want to get a ban.
I went ahead and decided to go on with the "Would you ever...?" prompts. This one to be specific:
Would you ever cause physical harm to someone to protect your family?
I hope you find my answer interesting. I'd also like to invite you to participate in this initiative. It gives you a topic to publish from Friday to Sunday.
To answer to the question calls for an explanation. I don't like violence. But I understand it's a very effective answer to solve some things in life. It is present in nature as a mechanism of regulation. There's always this funny notion that we are beyond it. But truth be told, we have accomplished a lot of our big moments thanks to tons of violence in the past.
I consider myself a pacifist. This means I don't want to harm people. But it also differs from being harmless. If you harras me, I'll try to solve the issue with words and actions. Then, I'll resort to violence.
That's the easiest way to explain it. But I must confess, I do have violent thoughts. There's a lot of people on by teeth-kicking list. So, as I practice self-control, I feel I'm feeding both wolves that live inside of me. There's this Cherokee story about the wolves. To make it short, it says we have two and one is good and the other is bad. The wolf that wins is the one we feed the most. But that simplifies the fact too much. The human condition is way more complex than a dichotomy.
There are plenty of reasons to choose violence on a daily basis. A lot of them are really lame.
However, if my family were in danger and I could save them with an act of violence. I'd do it. No hesitation. Not only that, it would grand. Because when you're driven to do the bad thing for the greater good, you go big or go home.
But you might wonder what could I dp to defend my family. Simple, I still remember everything I was taught not to do in the Dojo while practicing Aikido. All the things that would harm a fellow partner during the classes.
I'd make sure to put all that to practice and break some joints and bones.
I'm not an expert at arms, but I do know some tricks for disarming people. That's a plus. And I know how to use a sword. So that's another thing to consider.
Would I try to do something while being held at gunpoint? If that would keep my family save, for sure! It might get me killed, but I'd be answering two questions with one post.
Going back to the idea of the wolves, I believe that we cannot help feeding all the parts tbay make us who we are. That means all we consider good and all we consider bad. What we have in our hands is the ability to control ourselves during certain situations. And that's a true test of our character.
But I wouldn't think it twice to drop my nice ways and go full berserk. And a whole lot of people should be aware of that. Specially if they want to get funny with my family. And I'd would stand resolute to accept the consequences of my deeds.
There are two wolves in me. Neither is bad. Both are part of who I am. I feed them like they were my children. Pet them with love and care. One goes walking with me everyday. The other prefers to stay put. That one is always ready for action. It only awaits someone to cross me. And it is unfettered...
And what about you? Would do perform an act of violence if your family's safety depended on it?
