Hello there, my fellow musicians and music lovers!
I'm topping off my performances for this cycle with a classic in bars and karaoke. It is the Bolero El Cigarrillo. This song was popularized by famous Mexican singer and songwriter Ana Gabriel. Her recording of the song is usually what must people think about when you mention this song.
However, it isn't her composition. The author of the lyrics is the Chilean Tito Fernández. And the first recording of said song came in 1975. It also wasn't hers.
I can talk about listening to this particular song many times. My mom is a fan of Mexican singer such as Juan Gabriel, Vicente Fernández and more. She had an Ana Gabriel record and this song was included there. It is a really sad song about being alone and just having a cigarette to confide. Tough luck for people and else.
Why did I come about this performance? Sometimes, the teacher will get a song in his mind and that will be the lesson of that day. So he was singing this and it became the next cover. It's not a hard song to play but it is quite long. As you can listen, there's only a repetition of the first part as the usual singing goes. But the rest are variations on themes. That makes it kind of tricky to remember what comes next. But after a few attempts, here is my cover.
I should count the number of Boleros I know now. Maybe I could have a recital of boleros and include the ones recorded over the course of my time in the music festival.
We are done for this cycle. Thanks for listening and see you next week!
