Hello there, 3speakers!
Once the cut for the base structure of the head stock is made, the next step is preparing to glue it back with an angle. This is to have more resistance to the tension of the strings. We need to prepare the piece so it can be flush to the other side of the neck. That's done through sanding for the back side and using a plane on the front side once it is glued. We use the trick of the anchors to make sure the glue up process goes well.
