We are back with some more #weekend-engagement ideas and this week I thought I might bring my anti-hero antics to the real world with the power of fiction.
Convoluted way to start talking about something, but stay with me.
Each weekend we have the change of thought exercise. My choice for this week is this idea by the one and only G-dog:
Immortality for one weekend
You're immortal, you can't die, but only for one weekend. What do you do and why?
So as I used to write fiction in my return to HIVE, I'll take a shot at doing a twist with this idea.
The warm afternoon foretold of rain. Clouds gathered in the sky, but the only brought heat. As I kept working on my instrument, it occurred to me that a voice was calling. The sound was faint at best. But after laying down my tools, I could hear it better.
You have been chosen by the Fates.
Chosen? By the Fates? Me? Which Fates? Norse or Greek?
Silence mortal! You have been chosen to perform an act of change for your people.
Uhm... I think you have the wrong person. I make instruments and run a blog. Sometimes I perform music, but I'm also a lousy singer...
Shush! Listen to the Fates...
Greek or Norse?
It doesn't matter. Be quiet.
We will bestow upon you the gift of immortality so you can perform a deed that will change the future of your people...
Immortality? Life's already too annoying to keep this going forever. No, thank you. Find a Messiah elsewhere.
Listen, child. We do not care about your millenials issues. You also have no choice. We will bestow on you the gift of immortality. But only for the weekend. You must decide what you will do.
...
I sat in silence for some time until I asked something about this deal.
So, Fates. Answer me this. And please, no riddles. What kind of immortality? Is it just that I can't die? Or is it like Dragon Ball kind of immortality where I can't either be gravely injured?
The former one.
Ok, but is it the only thing I'll get? Can I have something more? Like can you bestow blessings upon objects?
Sure. But you must tell us what is it that you need.
I went back inside the house and picked up those wooden weapons from the aikido arms classes. Going back outside, I put them on the table.
I have this three things. Only 2 of them need blessings.
Child, how is it possible a mortal holds a soul-stealing wooden sword?
It's a family heirloom. I haven't used it. But your whole "perform an act of change" gives me an idea.
What do you want in the others?
I pointed to the Tanto (knife) replica.
I want this to make me impervious to damage. But make it work only if I hold it or have it on me.
It is done! What about the other?
Pointing to the pone boken
Could you make this the hardest object in the world? But also not make it heavy? It is a sword after all. What good would it do of I can't swing it?
It is done! These blessing will expire once the weekend is over. Go and do your deed!
The voices stopped. I had to try if the blessings worked. The first thing I did was trying the hardest boken in the world on the neighbors car. It is stolen, so I didn't feel guilty. The other object was harder to try. But I mustered enough courage attempt to injure myself while holding the tanto. And wouldn't you know it, I broke one of my chisels. That wasn't cool.
With my new tools and the gift of immortality, I set on a quest to rid the country of corrupt people. I like heroes enough, but I would be one of them. Heroes can't fix anything. I knew one weekend wouldn't be enough, so I made a list. Until the weekend ends, let's see how many targets I can get. If you watch the news and find the pattern in the missing people you might shiver or smile. Hope it isn't the former or this is the last thing you'll see before your soul gets trapped in my boken.
One must look cool while taking lit the trash! 馃槑
