I started the fermented feed and sprouted seeds experiment 4 - 5 days ago.
So far so good - I think.
No major disasters but it does seem slow. In the end I used just sunflower seeds rather than mixed bird seed (it's all we had)
I soaked the seed overnight
then transferred it to plastic trays with holes punched in the bottom for drainage.I have rinsed the seeds twice daily and drained well between rinses.
There has been no sign of mould - which is good but germination seems slow.
Day 1:
Day 4:
I do wonder if the utility room is too cold as we have the door open throughout the day and the room is north facing
I think the fermented feed is going OK. There is no noticeable smell to the feed and again no mould , so I guess this is good, although there has been no noticeable 'bubbling' either.
Today I fed a small amount to the growers, they did love it but then again they do like mix grain regardless of how it's served.
After 4 days fermenting:
It's early days but as you can probably tell I've a long way to go before I'm convinced it is worth doing.
If I continue I think I'll only feed the fermented feed for a couple of days a week as a supplement feed, likewise the sprouted seeds
