Visiting the beautiful rural area of Platanito and its colorful gardens (Eng - Esp)
Greetings to fellow travelers around the world; I hope you have a happy and blessed day with your loved ones. It is a pleasure to share my visit to the Platanito area, located in the Libertador municipality of Sucre state. It is a beautiful rural zone surrounded by mountains, lush vegetation, agricultural lands, and incredible scenery—ideal for nature lovers. The journey to this lovely spot offers spectacular views and colorful flowers set against a mountain backdrop.
Large trees line both sides of the road, providing shady spots; if you enjoy natural surroundings, you can stop along this stretch of the road and admire the charming landscape from the shade. We took a brief pause during our trip, and I must say the scenery is stunning. The vegetation is dense, and we spotted various species of Ceiba trees and shrubs I had never seen before, as well as beautiful, sprawling bougainvillea plants that stand out with their fuchsia-colored flowers. From the road, you can also see a strangler fig tree with its distinctive branches that seem to float in mid-air. I spent the most time in the area where the bougainvilleas grow; I really love these flowers for their color and their paper-like petals. In addition to the fuchsia variety, there was a white one—a rare sight—though I think I was so excited that I forgot to take even a single photo of it.
After traveling approximately 10 km, we arrived in Platanito. Upon entering, I noticed the colorful houses, but what really caught my eye were the beautiful gardens—specifically a red and fuchsia flower known as the "Coral Flower" (Flor de Coral); one need only take a brief look to see its striking resemblance to marine coral.
Its leaves are elongated, and the flower appears to be made up of various clusters and bubble-like shapes interspersed with tiny yellow circles. Alongside this plant, there were pink flowers with white centers, small sunflowers, a beautiful orchid, and various food crops, all creating lovely landscapes set against the mountains. The municipality is notable for its agricultural areas; situated at the foot of the mountains, they boast fertile soil perfect for growing a variety of crops and allowing gardens to flourish with colorful blooms. Beyond the Coral Flower, I discovered other varieties here—such as the Cockscomb (Cresta de Gallo)—which stand out for their multicolored hues and unique shapes, bearing no resemblance to the typical four- or six-petaled flowers we usually see. I really enjoyed this part of the state, thanks to its charming scenery and beautiful mountains.
Blessings!
¡Bendiciones!
