Greetings to friends around the world; it is a pleasure to say hello and wish you an excellent, blessed day with your loved ones. The first half of July has already passed; the children have finished the school year and have several months of vacation ahead. This break is perfect for going out with my son to visit different places in the city—including some that were recommended to us—and recently, we took an afternoon walk through the city center.
As I have mentioned in other posts, the city is characterized by high temperatures year-round. However, with the arrival of the rains this month, the temperature has dropped slightly, though the sun remains relentless at certain times of day. Consequently, we have adjusted our walking schedule to the late afternoon and early evening, starting at 5:30 PM. At that hour, the sun hasn't set yet, and while the rays aren't as intense, it is better to head out as dusk begins, when the sunlight is softer and the air is cooler.
Our walk took us to Plaza Bolívar, the ruins of the old Governor's Palace, the Andrés Eloy Blanco House, and the end of Juncal Street, where there is a beautiful view of the San Antonio de la Eminencia Castle. We began our tour at Plaza Bolívar, where we noticed new plants and gardens that were—as always—well-kept; at that time of day, several people were sitting on the benches, chatting and enjoying the breeze.
Saludos amigos en todo el mundo, es un placer saludarles deseando que tengan un excelente y bendecido día en unión de sus seres queridos; ya pasó la primera quincenena del mes de julio, los niños han terminado el año escolar y tendrán varios meses de vacaciones, esta pausa es perfecta para salir con mi hijo y visitar diferentes lugares de la ciudad y conocer otros que nos han recomendado, en estos días hicimos una caminata por el centro de la ciudad en horas de la tarde.
Como he comentado en otras publicaciones, la ciudad se caracteriza por temperaturas altas durante todo el año, pero con la llegada de las lluvias que iniciaron este mes, la temperatura ha bajado un poco pero igual el sol sigue inclemente a ciertas horas del día, por eso hemos cambiado el horario para realizar nuestras caminatas y paseo y los estamos haciendo en la tarde noche a partir de las 5:30 de la tarde, a esta hora el sol aún no se ha ocultado y aunque los rayos no inciden con tanta fuerza, es mejor mejor salir cuando inicia el ocaso, pues los rayos tienen poca intensidad y la temperatura es fresca.
Nuestro paseo nos llevó a la plaza Bolívar, las ruinas de la antigua sede de la gobernación, la casa Andrés Eloy Blanco y el final de la calle Juncal donde se aprecia una hermosa vista del castillo San Antonio de la Eminencia, iniciamos el recorrido por la plaza Bolívar, donde observamos que hay nuevas plantas, sus jardines limpios como siempre y a esta hora habían varias personas sentadas en los bancos conversando y aprovechando la brisa.
Next, we headed toward the former headquarters of the Sucre State government—a white building featuring a lovely façade and a sculpture at the top. The building is encircled by columns and walls along its sides and front; it also boasts a central stained-glass window and various decorative elements characteristic of the era in which this grand structure was built. Parts of the original façade and internal structures remain intact, as do the white columns forming the perimeter fence that surrounds the front and one side of the building.
Adjacent to this striking building stands an educational center known as "Las Carmelitas," a long-established institution in the city. It is beige in color and features round-arched doorways, a perimeter fence, and walls clad in small, smooth stones. Both the former government headquarters and the educational center are located on Bolívar Street, which stretches as far as the city hospital and also intersects with the Santa Inés Church. From the educational center, one can see benches lining the garden edges, the current government headquarters, the Andrés Eloy Blanco House, and the Fundacultura headquarters.
Luego nos dirigimos hacia la sede de la antigua gobernación del estado Sucre, un edificio de color blanco con una bonita fachada y una escultura en la parte superior, el edificio está rodeado por columnas y muros en la parte lateral y frontal, también tiene un vitral en el centro y varios elementos decorativos, propios de la época en que se construyó esta gran obra y de la cual aún se conserva parte de la fachada, algunas estructuras internas, las columnas de color blanco que forman la cerca perimetral y la rodean en el frente y en uno de los costados.
Al lado de este llamativo edificio se ubica un centro educativo conocido como las Carmelitas que tiene una gran trayectoria en la ciudad, es de color beige, las puertas en arco de medio punto, cerca perimetral y paredes cubiertas pequeñas piedras lisas, la antigua sede de la gobernación y el centro educativo, se ubican en la calle Bolívar, la cual se extiende hasta el hospital de la ciudad, también esta calle converge con la iglesia Santa Inés; desde el centro educativo se observa parte de los bancos colocados en los bordes de los jardines, la sede actual de la gobernación, la casa de Andrés Eloy Blanco y la sede de Fundacultura.
After touring the buildings along Bolívar Street, we moved on to Sucre Street, where the birthplace of Andrés Eloy Blanco is located. It is a blue, colonial-style house featuring large windows and doors and a triangular, tile-covered roof. Next to this house—which now serves as a museum—stands the current seat of the state government, painted in white, yellow, and blue. At the poet's birthplace, we observed the large windows, a black plaque stating that the writer was born there, the identifying lettering (also in black), and a photograph of this distinguished native of Cumaná.
The streetlamps feature a lovely lantern design. Across the way lies Fundacultura, a space dedicated to cultural activities such as dance, theater, music, and the performing arts. The building boasts an attractive design with multicolored lines; it formerly housed the Pichincha Cinema, but after ceasing operations years ago, the facility is now used for various cultural events. Benches line the gardens of Bolívar Plaza along both Bolívar and Sucre Streets; in the next photo, we see a row of white granite benches with a unique design—they lack backrests, relying instead on a rear wall for support, anchored by metal rods in the center. A view of Sucre Street also shows benches situated beside lampposts and various offices. Visiting the plaza at this time of day was a delightful experience, as we were shielded from the sun's rays and could enjoy the cool evening breeze.
Luego de recorrer los edificios ubicados en la calle Bolívar nos trasladamos hasta la calle Sucre allí se encuentra la casa natal de Andrés Eloy Blanco, una casa de diseño colonial de color azul, con grandes ventanas y puertas, el techo en forma triangular cubierto con tejas, a un lado de esta casa que funciona como museo, se ubica la actual sede de la gobernación, es de color blanco amarillo y azul, en la casa natal del poeta observamos las grandes ventanas, una placa de color negro dónde se lee que en este lugar nació el escritor, luego la identificación con letras también de color negro y una fotografía de este insigne cumanés.
Las lámparas tienen el diseño de faroles que son muy bonitos, al otro lado está Fundacultura, un espacio para el desarrollo de actividades culturales; danza teatro, música, artes escénicas, entre otras, el edificio tiene un lindo diseño y líneas de varios colores, anteriormente en este espacio funcionaba el cine Pichincha, con los años cesó sus funciones y ahora sus instalaciones son aprovechadas para el desarrollo de diferentes actividades culturales; los bancos de la plaza Bolívar se ubican en los bordes de los jardines tanto de la calle Bolívar como de la calle Sucre, en la siguiente fotografía observamos una serie de bancos de granito en color blanco con un curioso diseño, no tienen espaldar y un muro en la parte posterior que sostiene el banco con sus respectivas cabillas en el centro, en una vista de la calle Sucre, vemos también los bancos ubicados al lado de los postes y varias oficinas, visitar la plaza a esta hora del día fue una linda experiencia, pues no había incidencia de los rayos solares y pudimos disfrutar la fresca brisa del atardecer.
