The brilliant shining light we see just after sunset or a little before dawn is the planet Venus. Surprisingly Venus is quite often mistaken for a UFO.

Venus is also referred to as the evening or morning star. Venus as its name would suggest is not that beautiful. The atmosphere is thick with toxins and hotter than Hyades.

The planet spins so slowly that a day on Venus lasts for 243 earth days that’s roughly 5832 hours long.

According to recent findings the “day” on Venus is getting longer.

The information was obtained from past Venus and Mercury missions. Spacecraft have mapped the surface of Venus thoroughly over the past 18 years and have found a few anomalies.

Data obtained recently from NASA’s Venus Express has shown a short fall of 20 kilometres. In other words the previously mapped landmarks on Venus are 20 kilometres behind where they should have been, this has added some 6 minutes to Venus’ day.

A lag of over 6 minutes in 18 years is a very drastic change. The atmosphere on Venus is thick we cannot see any of Venus’s surface features.

The whole surface of Venus is obscured by over a 100 kms of thick cloudy atmosphere.

Venus and Jupiter

The thick atmosphere on Venus is possibly acting as a braking system. To some extent Earth’s atmosphere acts as a braking system but the effects it produces only amounts to a few tenths of a second and it is virtually imperceptible.
