My time in the UK has been better than I ever imagined it would be. In fact, if it weren't for the fact that we have to pay around 4 thousand pounds by the middle of next month, I'd say we have settled in the country.
Alas, right now, we are still in a bit of a pinch and I suffered my first major setback in the country because for the first time since I started working in the Warehouse, my shift got cancelled. My wife told me not to think too much about it because it is not a reflection of my output but a normal thing that happens.
Last night, after getting home from another stressful day at the warehouse and not seeing my wife because she was doing her own shift, I got a dreaded call from the agency that I don't need to show up tomorrow because there won't be much to do and they don't need me. It felt like a punch to the gut as it is interfering with the plans I had for the week.
It is funny that the agency can call me in the night to tell me I won't be getting shifts anymore but if you have an issue and you call them 15 seconds after closing time, you'll talk to a machine.
This is precisely what I was worried about when I took the job in the first place. Agencies can literally just drop you on a whim and there's nothing you can do about it.
I'm not going to lie to you, I felt awful after getting the news. I couldn't sleep, so I walked to a shop that was open around 11pm to buy beer to help me sleep. Funny thing, I didn't need the beer anymore because when I got back, I was exhausted because of the walk and just slept.
Now I'm back in the market but I don't think I'll be here for too long because I'll be going for induction and starting a different warehouse job tomorrow. Interestingly, this one pays higher, so I'll cover for the day I missed.
